Topics and Resources
We have a wealth of resources available on a wide range of topics. For example, we can help your organization: develop strategies for recruiting, engaging and retaining volunteers from different demographic constituencies; assess risk in volunteer positions, and effectively deal with the related legal and ethical issues; and implement employer supported volunteerism policies in the workplace.
Since 1994, Volunteer Canada has led a training and awareness campaign to promote sound risk management and screening practices. A series of resources have been produced to guide organizations and managers of volunteer resources in the development and implementation of policies and procedures on screening volunteers who work with at-risk and vulnerable populations.
In 2007, Volunteer Canada released a revised Canadian Code for Volunteer Involvement. The Code provides voluntary organizations with a philosophical framework for involving volunteers at the governance, leadership and direct service levels. The Code outlines the values, principles and standards for effective volunteer practices within organizations.
