About Membership

Becoming a member of Volunteer Canada is the first step in developing a link to our country’s voluntary sector. Not only is membership with Volunteer Canada an opportunity to unite your organization with thousands of other non-profit and charitable groups, but also be a part of a continuously growing community developed to foster and promote volunteerism in Canada. 

Members of Volunteer Canada are organizations and individuals who wish to continue to see volunteerism grow with this new decade and build our sector into becoming a constant facet in the lives of Canadians. We believe in the strength of giving time, skill and in the nature of a good deed and its ability to facilitate change. Through a network of networks, we support Canadian communities to take action and use the tools and resources provided to become better advocates for their causes and volunteerism as a whole.

Since 1977, Volunteer Canada has been promoting and enhancing volunteerism through effective partnerships, ongoing programs; special projects while providing leadership on issues and trends that affect civic participation in Canada.

As a member of Volunteer Canada you have:

  • Participation in Volunteer Canada's governance, leadership and product development.
  • Access to new information on volunteerism and the voluntary sector in Canada through our print resources and Volunteer Canada's monthly updates and our e-zine "e-VOLution".
  • A free sample package for each Volunteer Canada national campaign promoting volunteerism.
  • A discount of 10% off the purchase price of Volunteer Canada publications and resources, including National Volunteer Week promotional items.
  • Use of the "Member of Volunteer Canada" logo for your letter head and other publications.
  • Inclusion in our online members directory, with a hyperlink to your own website
  • An exciting partnership of all sizes for discounted Directors' and Officers' Liability Insurance of up to 30% (with few exceptions) as well as General Liability Insurance.

There four types of Memberships with Volunteer Canada:

  • Individual/Organizations - $100: An Individual/Organization is any person or organization that is independent of any National affiliation's. The majority of organizations fall into this category.
  • National Volunteer Involving Organziation - $100: A National organization that hasaffiliate branches across Canada.
  • Affiliate / Branch of a National Volunteer Involving Organization - $80: A branch of a National organization, which carries the same name of the National body, but services a specific area of Canada.
  • Volunteer Centre - $80: A registered organization whose mandate includes the local or provincial promotion of volunteerism as well as aiding in collecting and promting various volunteer opportunities in their area.
